U.S. ‘News’ Media Propagandize for War Against Russia

July 26, 2014

Source: Eric Zuesse

Typical is TIME  Magazine, which headlined on
 24 July 2014,
 “In Russia, Crime Without Punishment.”
The sub-head, from Simon Shuster, “reporting” for the Russia-hating regime of Barack Obama, in the Russia-hating Ukrainian capital Kiev, was the even-more-slanted, propagandistic: “Vladimir Putin backs the rebels suspected of shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17. Why each new crisis makes him stronger.” Then, to stir the fear in its gulls even more, TIME’s  propaganda (though they call this sort of thing “news reporting”) opened: “The scene was almost too horrible to take in, and yet in a world of bristling threats no scene has been more revealing: under the baking July sun of eastern Ukraine, hundreds of bodies lay rotting as pro-Russian militiamen, some of them apparently drunk, brandished their weapons to keep European observers away.” The “Crime Without Punishment” was here alleged to have been such men’s shooting down of the Malaysian jet.
No one yet actually knew whether that passenger plane was shot down by any “pro-Russian militiamen,” or perhaps by the Ukrainian regime who were trying to exterminate as many residents in the “pro-Russian” areas as possible and were seeking support from other countries in their effort to eliminate the people in Ukraine’s regions where the new Obama-installed regime was unpopular, or perhaps even by Russian soldiers across the border inside Russia who were trying to help to protect those Russian-speaking Ukrainians from Kiev’s bombers, or what. But any “news” report that opens with such a loaded phrase as “suspected of shooting down,” without simultaneously saying who  is alleged to have “suspected” those individuals, and why, and what the evidence against and for them is, is sheer rabble-rousing propaganda, not actual news-reporting  at all, and it’s taking cheap “patriotic” shots, to bolster the allegations and agenda of one’s own government, even if that government might happen to be despised by many of the people who voted for it (people such as the present writer is), who might think that our government has shown too often that it lies through its teeth, like the U.S. media and government routinely do — and like “our” government did in 2003 about the “need” to “eliminate Saddam’s WMD.” How much credibility do the U.S. “news” media, and government, actually have, after that sordid, costly, and bloody waste, in and of Iraq? Perhaps among millions of ignorant people, our regime’s leaders and media still are believed, but not among anyone who followed and analyzed the “news reports” closely during the months leading up to our shameful, scandalous, invasion of Iraq. It was one lie, and distortion, and stenographic “news report” from White House sources, after another – all really just lying propaganda, all designed to win enough suckers so that George W. Bush could claim that “everybody knows he’s hiding something.” And, as the Democratic Party’s “Media Matters” documented as late as 25 October 2010, headlining, “Déjà vu: Right-wing media absurdly claim ‘Bush was right’ about Iraq’s WMDs,” the lies were still being circulated by Republican Party mouthpieces such as Fox “News,” even years later, constantly trying to rewrite history, constantly lying about it. But the Democratic Party’s propagandists are only slightly less untrustworthy themselves, and you won’t find out about that  by reading “Media Matters,” which lies only for “Democrats,” even for fake ones, such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton — pro-Wall-Street “Democrats,” who protect banksters (at the public’s expense) as much (and as effectively) as self-declared  Republican politicians do.
This two-faced, two-conservative-party, system, is mere mockery of a “free press” in a “democracy.” Americans should be outraged, no longer accept it, but just reject the conning of America by the aristocracy’s two political parties, and by the “news” media that the aristocracy control.
As I documented on 18 July 2014, “Obama Definitely Caused the Malaysian Airliner to Be Downed.” Read that, and then read the TIME  “report,” and make your own  judgment (it won’t be either mine, or TIME’s, but yours) as to whether this country has the free and honest press that one would expect in an authentic democracy. I contend that we do not (far from it), and that this country’s citizens should no longer accept the propaganda-factory that we do have. We should instead boycott it, and tell its advertisers that we don’t trust them or their commercials, because America’s democracy is gone: the whole system now is just rigged against the public.
For example, how did it happen that “Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. To date, the United States has provided Israel $121 billion (current, or non-inflation-adjusted, dollars) in bilateral assistance. Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the form of military assistance.” And, on July 18th, “Senate Approves Transfer Of Additional $351 Million To Israel,” at the very time when our government was pretending to be an honest broker in Israel-Palestine negotiations, and hundreds of Palestinian civilians were being bombed to death with U.S. bombs. Is this democracy? Or is it lobbying, and cash-purchase  of “our” politicians? “There has been virtually no debate about such huge payments to another nation’s defense budget when cities and schools continue to cut back on programs.” You can also read about “America’s Nazi Allies in Israel and Ukraine,” but not  in places such as The New York Times.
This news report is distributed, free of copyright or any charge, to all U.S. “news” media. We’ll see which ones are honest enough to publish it.

MH17 HOAX: Crash Scene Evidence Reveals No Boeing-777 Engine

It’s now established that US and international troops were deployed to the Ukraine under Exercise Rapid Trident - a 12-Nation joint military exercise in the Ukraine coinciding with the alleged crash of MH-17.
Rapid Trident Header US Army
Rapid Trident supports interoperability among Ukraine, the United States, NATO and Partnership for Peace member nations. The exercise helps prepare participants to operate successfully in a joint, multinational, integrated environment with host-nation support from civil and governmental agencies.
Rapid Trident is a part of U.S. European Command’s Joint Training and Exercise Program, designed to enhance joint combined interoperability with allied and partner nations.
The exercise also supports Ukraine’s Annual National Program to achieve interoperability with NATO and commitments made in the annual NATO-Ukraine work plan.
How many times have government and military exercises turned into false flag events like 9/11, Sandy Hook, Boston Marathon Bombing and now – the sensationalized downing of  a Malaysian Airliner, MH-17, as another in a long line of False Flags. VIDEO: DAHBOO7 Opinion about Rapid Trident
Energy Press Releases Thursday March 11, 2010 15:23
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has signed a long term TotalCare® service agreement to support engines that power Malaysia Airlines’ fleet of 17 Boeing 777 aircraft.
The agreement, which covers Trent 800 engines, is the first time that Malaysia Airlines operations will be supported by TotalCare®
TRENT-900 trentXWB_tcm92-44126Even while the evidence of hoax are not diminished, it must be updated that the Rolls Royce, TRENT-800  engines were installed on all Malaysia B-777 fleet including MH-17.
The TRENT engine rotates clockwise (CW) as opposed to the counter-clockwise (CCW) rotation of the GE90.  An archive photo of Malaysia 9M-MRD  from June, 2011 clearly shows the CW rotation of the Trent engine as indicated on the unique nose cone spiral.

RT News
Ukraine will play host, but the US military will call the shots, in an upcoming military exercise called Rapid Trident that will bring together some 1,300 international forces in Ukraine for a long-planned exercise.
Although the United States canceled Atlas Vision 2014, which was scheduled to take place in July in the northeastern Russian city of Chelyabinsk, the Pentagon says it will go ahead with plans for a multinational military exercise this summer in Ukraine.
Atlas Vision is a bi-lateral U.S-Russian Ground Forces exercise. The exercise will consist of a battalion-level command post exercise/Computer Assisted exercise and a platoon-level field training exercise.
Interesting how the media has erased the fact that Russia knows all about Rapid Trident including MH-17 evidence “irregularities”.
More interesting is that  Russia had planned to participate in one of these US-led events – Atlas Visionon their own soil.  Meanwhile, investigators and bloggers  continue to get blind-sided  by disinfo couched as insider “leaks” from allegedly trusted sources.
No doubt that every player forecasting the “new Cold War” are completely informed about the MH-17 hoax as integrated into a war games exercise.
When will investigators learn to look first, for the planned exercise as the pretext to a hoax/False Flag as was the case in 9/11, Sandy Hook and Boston Marathon Bombing.?

HOAX:  Bogus Engine Debris at Alleged MH-17 Crash Site

The huge, wide-body Boeing-777-200 is powered by one of the most advanced turbofan engines in the world.

Rolls Royce Trent 800 Turbofan engine has diameter of 9.2 feet.

Engine parts and other debris mostly appear to originate from aircraft other than a B-777-200.  More importantly, the impact of a giant B-777 falling from over 30,000 ft. altitude would  be expected to leave a large impact crater, yet the debris  appears to be dumped on the ground as if hauled in by truck.
At first sight the alleged engine debris appears to match the Trent 800 engine profile in the combustion stage aft of the large fan.  But on closer inspection no reasonable observer would expect this  heavy metal section to survive a fall from 30,000 feet without being disintegrated as it creates a large crater in the ground.  Instead, the the section looks more like it was hauled onto the scene and dropped from on the ground from the back of a truck

Coconuts TV Reports:
“Michael Holmes of CNN shared an image on Twitter via his account @holmescnn of a section of what appears to be a Malaysia Airlines jetliner on a grassy field. The Malaysian flag is clearly depicted and the red and blue livery colours used by MAS are also shown.”
The source of the images, a man identifying himself as a tourist guide / traveller / photographer / former soldier from Slovenia, @MatevzNovak, has since posted more photos – taken by a Nadezhda Chernetskaya – of what he claims to be the crash site of Flight MH17 in Grabovo, Ukraine. (TRNS)

No evidence of Boeing-777 engines at crash site could conclude that neither MH-17 nor MH-370 were struck by a missile!

Vertical stabilizer at alleged crash site fails to match Boeing-777 profile specific to 9M-MRD alias flight MH-17
Vertical stabilizer at crash site no match for 9M-MRD
A widely circulated video alleging shoot-down of MH-17 cannot be supported. Evidence supports catastrophic failure of the starboard engine that was eventually brought under control.  On close inspection, the dark under-side paint job (livery) suggests the aircraft is from the fleet of British Airways (Airbus) and not from the Malaysia airlines fleet of Boeing 777-200 servicing flight MH-17.

Suspicion that a counterfeit “MRD” section was conspicuously planted at the scene is further confirmed.

Folks Out There Have a “Distaste of Western Civilization and Cultural Values”

Of relevance to today’s unfolding World crisis is an article written a few days after the September 11, 2001 attacks by Edward S. Herman, Professor Emeritus of Finance, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. The article was published  by GR on 15 September 2001.
One of the most durable features of the U.S. culture is the inability or refusal to recognize U.S. crimes. The media have long been calling for the Japanese and Germans to admit guilt, apologize, and pay reparations. But the idea that this country has committed huge crimes, and that current events such as the World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks may be rooted in responses to those crimes, is close to inadmissible. Editorializing on the recent attacks (“The National Defense,” Sept. 12 [2001]), the New York Times does give a bit of weight to the end of the Cold War and consequent “resurgent of ethnic hatreds,” but that the United States and other NATO powers contributed to that resurgence by their own actions (e.g., helping dismantle the Soviet Union and pressing Russian “reform”; positively encouraging Slovenian and Croatian exit from Yugoslavia and the breakup of that state, and without dealing with the problem of stranded minorities, etc.) is completely unrecognized.
The Times then goes on to blame terrorism on “religious fanaticism…the anger among those left behind by globalization,” and the “distaste of Western civilization and cultural values” among the global dispossessed. The blinders and self-deception in such a statement are truly mind-boggling. As if corporate globalization, pushed by the U.S. government and its closest allies, with the help of the World Trade Organization, World Bank and IMF, had not unleashed a tremendous immiseration process on the Third World, with budget cuts and import devastation of artisans and small farmers. Many of these hundreds of millions of losers are quite aware of the role of the United States in this process. It is the U.S. public who by and large have been kept in the dark.
Vast numbers have also suffered from U.S. policies of supporting rightwing rule and state terrorism, in the interest of combating “nationalistic regimes maintained in large part by appeals to the masses” and threatening to respond to “an increasing popular demand for immediate improvement in the low living standards of the masses,” as fearfully expressed in a 1954 National Security Council report, whose contents were never found to be “news fit to print.” In connection with such policies, in the U.S. sphere of influence a dozen National Security States came into existence in the 1960s and 1970s, and as Noam Chomsky and I reported back in 1979, of 35 countries using torture on an administrative basis in the late 1970s, 26 were clients of the United States. The idea that many of those torture victims and their families, and the families of the thousands of “disappeared” in Latin America in the 1960s through the 1980s, may have harbored some ill-feelings toward the United States remains unthinkable to U.S. commentators.
During the Vietnam war the United States used its enormous military power to try to install in South Vietnam a minority government of U.S. choice, with its military operations based on the knowledge that the people there were the enemy. This country killed millions and left Vietnam (and the rest of Indochina) devastated. A Wall Street Journal report in 1997 estimated that perhaps 500,000 children in Vietnam suffer from serious birth defects resulting from the U.S. use of chemical weapons there. Here again there could be a great many people with well-grounded hostile feelings toward the United States.
The same is true of millions in southern Africa, where the United States supported Savimbi in Angola and carried out a policy of “constructive engagement” with apartheid South Africa as it carried out a huge cross-border terroristic operation against the frontline states in the 1970s and 1980s, with enormous casualties. U.S. support of “our kind of guy” Suharto as he killed and stole at home and in East Timor, and its long warm relation with Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, also may have generated a great deal of hostility toward this country among the numerous victims.
Iranians may remember that the United States installed the Shah as an amenable dictator in 1953, trained his secret services in “methods of interrogation,” and lauded him as he ran his regime of torture; and they surely remember that the United States supported Saddam Hussein all through the 1980s as he carried out his war with them, and turned a blind eye to his use of chemical weapons against the enemy state. Their civilian airliner 655 that was destroyed in 1988, killing 290 people, was downed by a U.S. warship engaged in helping Saddam Hussein fight his war with Iran. Many Iranians may know that the commander of that ship was given a Legion of Merit award in 1990 for his “outstanding service” (but readers of the New York Times would not know this as the paper has never mentioned this high level commendation).
The Iraqis then had their turn. Saddam moved from valued ally in the 1980s, whose use of “weapons of mass destruction” against Iran and the Iraqi Kurds caused no problem at all with his U.S. and British friends, to “another Hitler” upon his invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Suddenly his possession of “weapons of mass destruction” became an extremely urgent matter as the man had demonstrated an inability to follow orders. The war and “sanctions of mass destruction” that followed have killed more than a million Iraqis, and in the well-know words of Madeleine Albright, questioned on whether the death of 500,000 Iraqi children was justified by the U.S. policy ends, replied, “it is worth it.” No doubt, but an objective observer would recognize that there may be many Iraqis who feel with some justification that the United States is an evil force.
The unbending U.S. backing for Israel as that country has carried out a long-term policy of expropriating Palestinian land in a major ethnic cleansing process, has produced two intifadas– uprisings reflecting the desperation of an oppressed people. But these uprisings and this fight for elementary rights have had no constructive consequences because the United States gives the ethnic cleanser arms, diplomatic protection, and carte blanche as regards policy.
All of these victims may well have a distaste for “Western civilization and cultural values,” but that is because they recognize that these include the ruthless imposition of a neoliberal regime that serves Western transnational corporate interests, along with a willingness to use unlimited force to achieve Western ends. This is genuine imperialism, sometimes using economic coercion alone, sometimes supplementing it with violence, but with many millions–perhaps even billions–of people “unworthy victims.” The Times editors do not recognize this, or at least do not admit it, because they are spokespersons for an imperialism that is riding high and whose principals are prepared to change its policies. This bodes ill for the future. But it is of great importance right now to stress the fact that imperial terrorism inevitably produces retail terrorist responses; that the urgent need is the curbing of the causal force, which is the rampaging empire.

  1. The photo-link to Rapid Trident is to 2013, hardly "coinciding" with downing of MH17.
